DELETE
DELETE. A sensitive command that removes a process from the NonStop IPX/SPX
subsystem.
Distributed Systems Management (DSM). A set of tools used to manage Compaq NonStop
systems and networks. DSM tools include the ViewPoint console application
,
Subsystem Control Facility (SCF), and Event Management Service (EMS) interfaces to
the management processes for various Compaq subsystems.
distributor. An Event Management Service (EMS)
process that distributes event messages
from event logs to requesting management applications, to NonStop Kernel console-
message destinations, or to a collector on another node. See also consumer distributor
and compatibility distributor.
DSM. See Distributed Systems Management (DSM)
.
E4SA. See Ethernet 4 ServerNet adapter (E4SA)
.
EMS. See Event Management Service (EMS)
.
error. In Distributed Systems Management (DSM)
interfaces, a condition that causes a
command or other operation to fail. Contrast warning.
Ethernet. A popular local area network (LAN)
technology invented at the Xerox Corporation
Palo Alto Research Center. The Ethernet cable is a passive coaxial cable; the
interconnections all contain active components. Ethernet is a best-effort delivery system
that uses CSMA/CD technology. Xerox Corporation, Digital Equipment Corporation,
and Intel Corporation developed and published the standard for 10 Mbps Ethernet.
Ethernet 4 ServerNet adapter (E4SA). A ServerNet addressable controller (SAC)
for an
Ethernet local area network (LAN). It contains four Ethernet ports.
event. In Distributed Systems Management (DSM)
terms, a significant change in some
condition in the system or network. Events can be operational errors, notifications of
limits exceeded, requests for action needed, and so on.
event log. A file or set of files maintained by the Event Management Service (EMS)
to store
event messages generated by the NonStop IPX/SPX subsystem.
event management. The reporting and logging of events, the distribution and retrieval of
information concerning those events, and the actions taken by operations personnel or
software in response to the events. Compare control and inquiry
.
Event Management Service (EMS). A part of Distributed Systems Management (DSM)
used to provide event collection, event logging, and event distribution facilities. EMS
provides for different event descriptions for interactive and programmatic interfaces, lets
an operator or application select specific event-message data, and allows for the flexible
distribution of event messages within a system or network.
event message. A message that describes an event occurring in the system or network.
