Using the NBTEST / RML Utility program
The REMOTENAME at the NBTEST CALL node must match the LOCALNAME at
the NBTEST LISTEN node. The LOCALNAME of the CALL node is not important per
se, but it must be different from the LOCALNAME of the LISTEN node. NBTEST
allows names of 1 to 16 letters and numbers. All alphabetic characters are converted to
upper case.
The DELAY parameter slows down NBTEST PC by delaying before sending each test
message to the Compaq host. The default is 0 for no delay, and the allowed range is 1 to
9999. The unit of time is one millisecond, very approximately. This number is only used
when NBTEST is run as a load test.
You can use NBTEST as a primitive load test by adjusting the COUNT and SIZE
parameters. By design, NBTEST will terminate upon the first detection of any error, so
it is not suitable for sophisticated testing or benchmarking. During a session, NBTEST
sends one message at a time from the remote node to the local node, and then back
again. There is plenty of idle time, so NBTEST will not place significant loads on the
network, the Compaq host, or the PC. Accordingly, the network throughput, measured
in bytes or messages, will only indicate a small fraction or the maximum throughput
achieved by more sophisticated applications running over multiple sessions.
The ADAPTER parameter selects the specified NetBIOS stack or adapter for NBTEST
on PC’s running multiple NetBIOS stacks. The default is 0, and values from 0 to 9 are
allowed. Typically, Windows 95/98/NT uses adapter 0 for RFC1001 TCP/IP (used with
NBT), adapter 6 for Netbeui, and adapter 7 for IPX (used with NBX).
Using the NBTEST RML Function to Perform RMPCCOM
LOGON and RMPCCOM LOGOFF
The NBTEST RML function can be used to perform RMPCCOM LOGON and
RMPCCOM LOGOFF.
RMPCCOM LOGON using the NBTEST RML Function
The RMPCCOM LOGON program released with PC6530 does not function with certain
operating systems such as Windows NT. NBTEST.EXE now provides this functionality.
The NBTEST RML function syntax to perform an RMPCCOM LOGON is
group.user,password
is the NSK userid and password.
