NonStop NET/MASTER MS Commands

PROGRUN The PROGRUN command suspends your current activity with NonStop
NET/MASTER MS and executes an external program, such as a Guardian utility.
Using the PROGRUN command to execute a Guardian utility means that you can
communicate interactively with the utility and receive the results of commands, but
NonStop NET/MASTER MS does not log the results.
The PROGRUN command allows a Guardian process to take control of the terminal
from which the command is entered. Whenever the PROGRUN command is issued,
all use of NonStop NET/MASTER MS at that terminal is suspended.
When the PROGRUN command is issued to a remote system, NonStop NET/MASTER
MS checks that the command is valid for that system. If so, NonStop NET/MASTER is
suspended at the terminal from which the command was entered, and the remote
process is created.
Once the Guardian process is started, NonStop NET/MASTER MS does not attempt to
stop or control it.
When NonStop NET/MASTER MS regains control of the terminal, it returns control to
the environment from which the PROGRUN command was entered. For example, if
you entered the PROGRUN command from the OCS command input line in
window 1, NonStop NET/MASTER MS returns you to window 1 and displays a
message in the roll-delete message display area that relates the outcome of the
PROGRUN command. The message includes the name of the process.
You should use the OPSYS command rather than the PROGRUN command to use
Guardian conversational utilities from NonStop NET/MASTER MS. The OPSYS
command allows NonStop NET/MASTER MS to receive the results of interaction with
a utility and allows command authority-level checking on each command sent to a
Guardian utility. The OPSYS command sends the results either to your terminal or an
NCL process, depending on where the OPSYS command was issued. The OPSYS
command lends itself to automating operations, whereas the PROGRUN command
does not.
There are two formats of the PROGRUN command, discussed next.
Format 1 Format 1 of the PROGRUN command allows you to communicate interactively with
Guardian utilities defined in User ID Management Services (UMS).
The syntax of Format 1 is automatically installed by the INIT NCL procedure executed
during NonStop NET/MASTER MS startup. Installing Format 1 enables
authority-level checking for individual Guardian utilities, but not individual utility
commands. Default authority levels for Guardian utilities available using Format 1 are
listed in Appendix A, “Default Authority Levels for Guardian Utility Commands.”
When Format 1 is available, you can use either Format 1 or Format 2 (if you have
sufficient authority).
