Considerations
The default authority level of this command is 0.
You can enter this command from any NCL procedure, except the INIT NCL
procedure, by using either the CMD core statement or the INTCMD verb.
If you issue a ROUTE command to a remote NonStop NET/MASTER MS or
SOLVE management services system before issuing a SIGNON link-name
command, the ROUTE command issues an implicit SIGNON link-name command.
This logs you on automatically if the link is active. If the link is not active when
the ROUTE command is entered, the ROUTE command is rejected; it is not
queued. When implicitly logging on to a remote system, your user ID and
password at both systems must be identical. You can use the SIGNON link-name
command to explicitly log on to a remote system.
Tandem NonStop NET/MASTER MS is case-sensitive in relation to passwords;
lowercase and uppercase alphabetic characters in a password are treated as
different characters. SOLVE management services is not case-sensitive in relation
to passwords; corresponding lowercase and uppercase alphabetic characters in a
password are treated as the same characters.
Therefore, from a local NonStop NET/MASTER MS system, to explicitly log on to
a remote:
NonStop NET/MASTER MS system, the password sent from the local system
must have identical lowercase and uppercase alphabetic characters to the
remote password.
SOLVE management services system, the password sent from the local system
must have identical uppercase alphabetic characters to the remote password.
From a local SOLVE management services system, to explicitly log on to a remote:
NonStop NET/MASTER MS system, the password sent from the local system
must have identical uppercase alphabetic characters to the remote password.
SOLVE management services system, the password sent from the local system
must have identical uppercase alphabetic characters to the remote password.
See the ROUTE command for information on implicitly logging on to a remote
system.
When you execute the SIGNON link-name command, the link to the remote system
must be active for the SIGNON link-name command to complete the link. If the
link is not active, the SIGNON link-name command is queued and completes
automatically when the link becomes active.
Use of the SIGNON link-name command is important for operators that are to
receive unsolicited messages from a remote NonStop NET/MASTER MS or
SOLVE management services system. A queued SIGNON link-name command
completes as soon as the link becomes active and any unsolicited messages are
immediately received without further action by the operator.
