AUTOHOLD The AUTOHOLD command sets an OCS screen to either roll or hold roll-delete
messages. By using this command you can stop messages from rolling past on your
OCS screen before you can examine them, and you can control what happens when a
full screen of messages fills the roll-delete message display area, if there are more
messages in a group to display on the screen. (Messages are grouped to avoid
individual I/O operations to the terminal.) Entering the AUTOHOLD command with
no operands toggles the AUTOHOLD setting between ON and OFF. In OCS, this
command is assigned by default to the F6 function key.
You can immediately freeze the screen on any output line by pressing the ENTER key
with a blank command input line. This is a null entry and is normally used to lock the
screen momentarily while you are reading a critical message. When the screen is
frozen, the HOLDING caption is displayed immediately above the command input
line. This condition is also broken by input and the same warning messages can be
sent as for AUTOHOLD if excessive messages accumulate.
AUTOHOLD [ { ON | OFF } | { AUTO | NOAUTO } ]
ON
places the OCS screen in AUTOHOLD mode.
This causes OCS to stop roll-delete messages from scrolling past in the roll-delete
message area if the roll-delete message delimiter line is about to roll from the
bottom to the top of an OCS window.
Every time the roll-delete message delimiter line is about to roll from the bottom to
the top of the screen, message display freezes and the AUTO HOLD caption is
displayed. Message display continues when you press the ENTER key.
When AUTOHOLD ON is in effect, the AUTO/NOAUTO toggle has no effect.
OFF
disables AUTOHOLD ON.
This returns the OCS screen to normal rolling mode. If the screen is currently
frozen with the AUTO HOLD caption displayed, AUTOHOLD OFF allows all
queued messages to be displayed with no further freezing of the window. It
pauses only for the roll-time delay at the end of each screen of messages.
After the messages are displayed, the window behaves according to the current
setting of AUTOHOLD AUTO or AUTOHOLD NOAUTO.
AUTO
freezes the window automatically when a message fills the last line of the window,
only if there are enough messages queued to cause later messages to wrap past the
line on which the first message in the group is displayed.
