Managing Groups of
User ID Definition
Records
A group ID definition record simplifies the management of several user IDs that have
the same attributes. The attributes in a group ID definition record are propagated to
all user ID definition records that belong to the group.
To define a group of users and add user ID definition records for group members,
follow these steps:
1. Add a group ID definition record that specifies the attributes of each user ID in the
group.
The procedure for adding a group ID definition record is the same as that for
adding a user ID definition record. An explanation of the procedure appears in
“Adding a User ID Definition Record,” earlier in this section. When adding a
group ID definition record (as opposed to an individual user ID definition record)
keep the following in mind:
The value in the User field becomes the name of the group. This is important
for performing Step 2.
When you add a group ID definition record, enter the word GROUP in the
Definition Type field on the User ID Management Services : Primary Menu
panel. The value in the Definition Type field determines whether a record is
an individual user ID definition record or a group ID definition record.
The group ID definition record consists of all four or five panels normally
completed when you add a user ID definition record for an individual user.
2. Add a user ID definition record for each member of the group, specifying personal
information and the name of the group in the Group ID field on the UMS : User
Details panel. When you add the record, observe these guidelines:
Enter the name of the individual user, not the group ID name, in the User field
of the User ID Management Services : Primary Menu panel.
When you add the group member’s user ID definition record, enter USER in
the Definition Type field of the User ID Management Services : Primary Menu
panel.
Type the group name in the Group ID field of the UMS : User Details panel.
Note that the Group Name field is a protected field that displays the name of
the group to which the user ID belongs.
Enter information only in the UMS : User Details panel fields; all other user ID
definition record data comes from that stored in the group ID definition record
added in Step 1.
Enter information in these fields:

Group name (from Step 1)
