Definition Records
This subsection explains the procedures used to add and maintain utility definition
records.
Entering Utility
Maintenance Services
To add, view, modify, or delete a utility definition database record, move to the
UMS : Utility Definition Maintenance menu panel. To access the panel, move to the
User ID Management Services : Primary Menu panel, type Y in the field next to the
Select Option prompt, and press the ENTER key. The UMS : Utility Definition
Maintenance menu panel, shown next, appears on your screen.

Adding a Record for
Utilities Accessed by the
OPSYS Command
Although the distributed utility definition database contains records for most Tandem
utilities, you may want to enable users to use external utilities for which no record
exists. Obviously, the distributed utility definition database does not contain
definition records for programs that you have written or purchased from sources other
than Tandem.
If the utility is a conversational-mode utility, you may want to add a record that allows
users to start a session with the utility by issuing the OPSYS command. (Remember
that users cannot use the OPSYS command to start sessions with block-mode
programs.) To add such a definition record, follow the steps listed below:
1. Move to the UMS : Utility Definition Maintenance panel.
2. Type A in the Select Option field.
Use option A to add a utility definition record.
