NET/MASTER Management Services (MS) System Management Guide
9 Supporting Remote Operations
105744 Tandem Computers Incorporated 9–1
NonStop NET/MASTER Management Services (MS) enables you to both send
commands to and receive messages from other network management applications.
The network management application can be one of the following:
A NonStop NET/MASTER MS system on another Tandem computer
Another NonStop NET/MASTER MS system on the same Tandem computer
The SOLVE management services on an IBM 370 or compatible computer
NetView on an IBM 370 or compatible computer
You can also log on to and use the SOLVE management services or another NonStop
NET/MASTER MS system. (For brevity, this section uses the term “remote
management application” to describe any of the management applications to which
you can connect NonStop NET/MASTER MS.)
The NonStop NET/MASTER MS component that supports interoperation with remote
management applications is known as the Inter-NET/MASTER Connection (INMC).
To communicate with a remote management application, you must configure and start
an INMC link.
This section provides instructions for configuring an INMC link. It begins with a
conceptual overview of how INMC uses Tandem communications subsystems to
communicate with remote management applications. Then, the discussion outlines
the procedure for configuring both Tandem subsystems and INMC to support
communication between INMC and a remote management application. This section
also explains the steps for altering and removing an INMC configuration. Next,
specific guidelines are provided for configuring the subsystems and NonStop
NET/MASTER MS use of the subsystems.
Refer to the NonStop NET/MASTER MS Operator’s Guide for a discussion of starting,
stopping, and viewing the status of an INMC link.
This section concludes by describing use of the ISR command to regulate the flow of
messages between NonStop NET/MASTER MS and remote management applications.
Note If you want to connect NonStop NET/MASTER MS to the SOLVE management services (using an INMC
link), then the SOLVE management services must be Version 2.1 or later.
