Cooperative
Management of
Distributed Systems
NonStop NET/MASTER MS also supports cooperative management in two kinds of
networks:
Homogeneous networks composed solely of Tandem nodes
Heterogeneous SNA networks managed either by the SOLVE management
services software from Sterling Software or by the NetView Focal Point
management product from IBM.
The Inter-NET/MASTER Connection (INMC) provides application-to-application
services that enable cooperative processing between NonStop NET/MASTER MS and
other management applications.
What Is the INMC? The INMC is a multiprotocol message routing system that facilitates the exchange of
event messages, commands, and command-response messages between platforms.
The INMC enables a NonStop NET/MASTER MS system to provide these services:
Route event messages between nodes in either or both directions. The Inter-
System Routing (ISR) component of NonStop NET/MASTER MS routes event (or
alert) messages between NonStop NET/MASTER MS and another management
application. With the ISR, users can route messages to either the PPO interface, or
to the CNM Focal Point interface on an IBM node.
Send commands and receive command-response messages between nodes in
either or both directions. By using the Remote Operator Control (ROC)
component, users can remotely access operations consoles on another computer.
When it is operational, the ROC component enables a Tandem operator to enter
IBM commands and view the response messages.
Between a Tandem node and an IBM mainframe, the INMC can operate over an
existing SNA connection, through either the Tandem SNAX/Extended Facility
(SNAX/XF) or SNAX/Cross Domain Facility (SNAX/CDF) product. The INMC
provides a logical connection between nodes and, therefore, insulates users from
different kinds of physical connections and the configuration of the connections.
By issuing a few simple commands, users can dynamically perform these tasks:
Start and stop the flow of event messages between two nodes
Change the message traffic pattern
Change the kinds of messages that flow between two nodes
Enable or disable the transmission of command-response messages
Details about the INMC, ISR, and ROC appear in Section 9, “Supporting Remote
Operations.”
Interoperation With the
SOLVE Management
Services
Tandem nodes that use NonStop NET/MASTER MS can cooperatively interoperate
with IBM nodes that run the SOLVE management services. NonStop NET/MASTER
MS and the SOLVE management services view each other as peer network
management applications that can exchange commands and event messages.
