Section 5, “Customizing the Operations Environment,” describes use of the terminal
timeout commands.
Password Protection and
Management
Users who log on to NonStop NET/MASTER MS must authenticate their use of a
logon by entering a password. As new passwords are assigned, they are irreversibly
encrypted according to the Data Encryption Standard (DES) encryption algorithm and
stored in the User ID Management Services (UMS) database.
Password management features enable you to strengthen the security barrier that
passwords provide. You can configure these attributes of passwords on a system-wide
basis:
Minimum length of a password
Life of a password
Interval between reuse of the same password for a user ID
For more information about password security management, see Section 5,
“Customizing the Operations Environment.”
Secure Access to
Commands and Guardian
Utilities and Applications
You can secure access to NonStop NET/MASTER MS commands and Guardian
utilities and applications by using the command authority level. A command
authority level is an integer in the range of 0 to 255. A command authority level is
assigned to the following:
All NonStop NET/MASTER MS commands
Conversational-mode utilities
Optionally, specific members of a conversational-mode utility command set
Block-mode applications
When you define a user to NonStop NET/MASTER MS, you assign the user a
maximum command authority level. The user can use any feature that has an
authority level less than or equal to that command authority level. For example, a user
with a command authority level of 3 can use any feature that has a command authority
level of 0 through 3.
You can change the minimum command authority level required to use any command
or utility.
See Section 6, “Managing Access to External Utilities and Applications,” for additional
information about access to utilities and applications. See Section 7, “Configuring the
Console Extras Facility,” for procedures by which you configure Console Extras panels
to enable users to start utilities and applications using menus.
Refer to the NonStop NET/MASTER MS Command Reference Manual for default
command authority levels.
