Configuration
Management
There are two types of parameters that control the configuration of a NonStop
NET/MASTER MS system:
Startup parameters
System parameters
For most parameters of each type, you can:
Use its default setting
Customize its setting during NonStop NET/MASTER MS startup
Reconfigure its setting after NonStop NET/MASTER MS startup
Using default settings for both startup parameters and system parameters simplifies
the configuration of a NonStop NET/MASTER MS system. After becoming familiar
with NonStop NET/MASTER MS, you can customize or reconfigure the settings of
parameters.
Startup Parameters Startup parameters contain settings used during NonStop NET/MASTER MS system
initialization, before execution of the INIT NCL procedure. Startup parameters
contain settings for:
The locations of certain NonStop NET/MASTER MS files
The names of certain NonStop NET/MASTER MS files
NonStop NET/MASTER MS process types and process attributes
For information about the INIT NCL procedure and specifying the location and name
of system files, see Section 3, “Configuring NonStop NET/MASTER MS.” For
information about defining processes, see Section 11, “Configuring the Processing
Environment.”
Default Startup Configuration
Every startup parameter has a default setting. Collectively, the default settings
constitute a default startup configuration. The default startup configuration enables
you to start NonStop NET/MASTER MS immediately after running the REPSUBSYS
phase of the Tandem Install program: that is, without a CONFIG file.
Tandem recommends that you use the default startup configuration to start NonStop
NET/MASTER MS for the first time, to familiarize yourself with its features.
Additionally, in situations where you require only basic functions, such as some
training and NCL development scenarios, you can use the default startup
configuration to start multiple systems on the same node without any configuration or
OBEY command files.
