Introduction to Managing NonStop NET/MASTER MS
115414 NonStop NET/MASTER MS System Management Guide 1–17
System Parameters System parameters contain settings used during NonStop NET/MASTER MS startup,
after system initialization. Many system parameters are executed in the INIT NCL
procedure (some can only be executed in the INIT NCL procedure). Some system
parameters may also be executed in the READY NCL procedure. System parameters
configure many NonStop NET/MASTER MS system-wide settings. System
parameters are available to configure:
NonStop NET/MASTER MS commands
Password security
Terminal security
Terminal operation
Event Management Service (EMS) features
Message logging
NCL features
Panel features
For information about the INIT and READY NCL procedures, see Section 3,
“Configuring NonStop NET/MASTER MS.” System parameters are grouped by
function in Appendix D, “Configuration Change Forms.”
Default System Configuration
Every system parameter has a default setting. Collectively, the default settings
constitute a default system configuration. The default system configuration enables
you to work with NonStop NET/MASTER MS immediately after NonStop
NET/MASTER MS startup.
Tandem recommends that you use the default system configuration when starting
NonStop NET/MASTER MS for the first time, to familiarize yourself with its features.
Refer to the SYSPARMS command in the NonStop NET/MASTER MS Command
Reference Manual for the default values of all system parameters. See Section 3,
“Configuring NonStop NET/MASTER MS,” for more information about how to start
NonStop NET/MASTER MS using its default system configuration.
Customized System Configuration
The setting of a system parameter is changed using the SYSPARMS command. During
NonStop NET/MASTER MS startup, you can include SYSPARMS commands in the
INIT and READY NCL procedures: this results in a customized system configuration.
Tandem recommends that you use a modified INIT and READY NCL procedure to
customize NonStop NET/MASTER MS for prolonged testing and for use in
production environments.
See Section 3, “Configuring NonStop NET/MASTER MS,” for more information about
how to start NonStop NET/MASTER MS with a customized system configuration.
