Phase 1: Perform
Initial Installation
Tasks
Before you start NonStop NET/MASTER MS on a node for the first time, you must
install the files on your node and properly secure them. To do this, perform the initial
installation tasks described in this subsection. It is assumed that you have run the
REPSUBSYS phase of the Install program before proceeding.
Task 1: Satisfy Hardware
Prerequisites
NonStop NET/MASTER MS requires a minimum of two CPUs to support its nonstop
processes. The NCP, global memory manager (GMM) processes, and security exit
processes usually run as process pairs. For process pairs, you must have at least one
CPU for the primary process and a second CPU for the backup process.
Note You can start a NonStop NET/MASTER MS system on a node that has only one available CPU in cases
where the second CPU is down. After the second CPU is reloaded, the NCP, which starts all other
NonStop NET/MASTER MS processes, starts its backup process in the second CPU.
Tandem computer systems on which you can run NonStop NET/MASTER MS include
the following:
Cyclone
NSR-L
NSR-M
NSR-N
Himalaya
If you plan to connect NonStop NET/MASTER MS systems within a network, install
and configure the communications lines. New communications lines require the
SYSGEN program and access method configuration.
NonStop NET/MASTER MS works with these terminals:
Tandem 6530 or compatible terminals
IBM 3270 or compatible terminals (model 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 screen sizes), including
such terminals that support color
Personal computer running software that emulates a Tandem 6530 or IBM 3270
terminal
Task 2: Satisfy Software
Prerequisites
NonStop NET/MASTER requires version D20.00 or later of the Tandem NonStop
Kernel. Tandem also recommends that you use the Distributed Systems Network
Management (DSNM) product.
Note Although it is possible to start NonStop NET/MASTER MS without DSNM, Tandem strongly recommends
that you use NonStop NET/MASTER MS with DSNM. Without DSNM, you cannot use DSNM commands
to control subsystem objects. Additionally, you cannot use the OPSYS command to access Guardian
utilities, such as PUP, without DSNM.
