Shutting Down
NonStop NET/MASTER
MS
There are three methods available to shut down a NonStop NET/MASTER MS system:
normal, immediate, and emergency. All three methods operate on the NonStop
NET/MASTER MS and DSNM processes started by the NCP.
You can use each shutdown method from NonStop NET/MASTER MS or from TACL.
From NonStop NET/MASTER MS, you enter commands from the OCS command
input line prompt or from within an NCL procedure. From TACL, you use the NNM
program.
To use the NNM program to shut down NonStop NET/MASTER MS, you must be
one of the following:
The user that started the NonStop NET/MASTER MS system
The group manager of the user that started the NonStop NET/MASTER MS
system
The super ID (255,255)
For complete information about the NonStop NET/MASTER MS commands used to
shut down a NonStop NET/MASTER MS system, refer to the NonStop NET/MASTER
MS Command Reference Manual.
Note These commands do not stop processes that are not started by NonStop NET/MASTER MS. This
includes the DSNM command server, conversational interface, and security exit processes if they are
started externally to NonStop NET/MASTER MS.
You cannot use the NNM program to shut down a remote NonStop NET/MASTER MS system. To shut
down a remote NonStop NET/MASTER MS system, run the NNM program on the node where the remote
NonStop NET/MASTER MS system is executing. For example:
\REMOTE.NNM $ZNNM FSTOP
Normal Shutdown Generally, use the SHUTDOWN command to stop NonStop NET/MASTER MS
because this command begins the shutdown operation after all users have logged off.
The SHUTDOWN command also allows you (or another NonStop NET/MASTER MS
user with sufficient command authority) to cancel the shutdown operation.
Normal Shutdown of NonStop NET/MASTER MS From NonStop NET/MASTER MS
To perform a normal shutdown operation from NonStop NET/MASTER MS, follow
these steps:
1. Issue the following command either from the OCS command input line or from
within an NCL procedure:
SHUTDOWN
The display from the STATUS command shows SHUTDOWN PENDING.
