Adding a Message Action Rule
Creating and Developing Rulesets and Rules
115415 NonStop NET/MASTER RMS Management and Operations Guide 5–19
Work your way through the six panels, filling in the required fields. (See the
following subsections for a detailed description of the fields.)
4. Before you file the rule definition, you should specify the filing method. Specify
the method in the Activation field on the RMS : System Action panel as follows:
If you want to save the rule definition but do not want to make the rule
available to existing message handlers that use the ruleset, leave the initial
value D (deferred) in the Activation field.
Note If you are filing a %INCLUDE rule definition, you must specify D in the Activation field.
If you want to save the rule definition and make the rule available to existing
message handlers that use the ruleset, specify I (immediate).
If you want the rule to be only temporarily available to existing message
handlers that use the ruleset, specify N (no save).
5. When finished filling in the fields, press F3 to file the rule definition. The
RMS : Message Action Rules Maintenance panel reappears, and a message
confirms the addition of the new rule.
6. To make rule management easier, you should always add comments to describe a
new rule as described in “Maintaining Comments” in Section 6. You may also
want to update the comments on the ruleset itself.
Note You may need to change the ruleset control options on the RMS : Control Options Definition—Run Parms
panel to make the features you specified effective. See “Enabling or Disabling Ruleset Features” earlier
in this section.
Setting the Initial Status of
the Message Action Rule
You can set the initial status of the rule to either ACTIVE (rule can be triggered when a
message meets the criteria) or INACTIVE (rule cannot be triggered even when a
message meets the criteria) at the Status field (page 1 of the message action rule
definition panels). The default value is ACTIVE as follows:

Note You can change the status of a rule at any time, using a Message Action Rules Maintenance selection list
panel. See “Activating and Inactivating Message Action Rules” in Section 9.
