Specifying How You Want
the Message Modified
Once a message satisfies the triggering criteria of the rule, RMS can modify the
message presentation according to the rule (for example, to enhance message
presentation). You specify how you want RMS to modify the message using the
RMS : Message Modification panel (page 4 of the message action rule definition
panels). You can set up a rule to perform the following when a message triggers the
rule:
Control the message delivery
Display a help panel
Change the message attributes
Replace the message text
Note For the previous four features to be effective, you must also ensure that the control options of the ruleset
allow them. You can enable the features using the RMS : Control Options Definition—Run Parms panel.
See “Enabling or Disabling Ruleset Features” earlier in this section.
If you do not want to modify the message, use the default values.
Specifying How You Want the Message Delivered
Specify how you want the message delivered in the Deliver field on the
RMS : Message Modification panel by using one of the following values:
Value Description
Y Delivers the message after any modifications. This is the default.
L Delivers the message to the NonStop NET/MASTER MS activity log only.
N Suppresses the message. Message suppression occurs regardless of whether the
message triggering the rule contains a frozen subject.
X Lets the exit NCL procedure specified in the NCL Exit Name field on the RMS : System
Action panel handle the message delivery. If the procedure returns a nonzero return code,
the message handler delivers the message according to the values in the Default Delivery
NCL Exit and Delivery Philosophy fields in the ruleset control options record.

Controlling the Number of Messages Delivered or Suppressed
You can control the number of messages that you want delivered or suppressed (as
defined using the Deliver field) within a time interval. This message delivery control
is called message threshold processing. Message threshold processing is available
