Creating and Developing Rulesets and Rules

Identifying the Message
Group Rule Members
You can have up to 20 message action rules as members of the message group rule.
Together, the rule members trigger the group rule. When first creating a group rule,
you must specify at least one message action rule. Once you create the group rule,
RMS automatically updates the list of rule members, whenever you register a message
action rule as a member of the group rule using the message action rule definition
panels. Specify the name of the message action rule in one of the Rule ID fields on the
RMS : Message Group Definition panel (page 1 of the message group rule definition
panels). The name can be up to 12 characters long.

If you specify a message action rule that is not in the ruleset, a warning message
appears. If you do not want to make any changes, you can continue with your rule
definition, but you must add the rule later.
If you specify a name that refers to more than one message action rule in the ruleset,
the RMS : Message Action Rule Selection panel appears. You may be able to use the
comments on the message action rules to differentiate between the rules. Press F5 on
the RMS : Message Action Rule Selection panel to change the display format and call
up the comments. Type an S next to the name of the required rule and press ENTER.
Press F3 to return to the message group rule definition panels.
Specifying a Message to Be
Delivered
Once a message group rule is triggered, RMS can deliver a message that you specify.
You specify the message using the RMS : Message Parameters panel (page 2 of the
message group rule definition panels). You can:
Display a help panel
Specify the message attributes
Specify the message text
If you do not want to send a message, leave the fields on the panel blank.
Displaying a Help Panel
You can instruct RMS to display a help panel when this rule is triggered. You must
create your own help panel. Refer to the NonStop NET/MASTER NCL Programmer’s
Guide for information on how to create a panel.
Your help panel has access to all RMS message variables that are applicable in a
message group rule. See Table 11-2 in Section 11 for a description of the variables.
