Controlling Message Handlers and Rules
115415 NonStop NET/MASTER RMS Management and Operations Guide 9–5
Option B to start an INT-type message handler in a background
environment
If a selection list panel appears, select the appropriate ruleset by typing an S
next to the name of the ruleset and pressing ENTER. The RMS : RMS Message
Display panel appears.
Messages appear advising you of the progress of the starting operation. For example,
the following messages appear when you start a MSGPROC with the ruleset
HYRLST01:
RMS1005 MSGPROC(000024) MESSAGE HANDLER START COMMENCED
RMS1035 MSGPROC(000024) RULESET (HYRLST01) LOAD COMMENCED
RMS1027 MSGPROC(000024) RULESET (HYRLST01) LOAD ENDED - 2 RULES LOADED
RMS1029 MSGPROC(000024) RULESET (HYRLST01) OPTIMIZED
RMS1008 MSGPROC(000024) RULESET (HYRLST01) INITIALIZATION COMPLETE
RMS1009 MSGPROC(000024) MESSAGE HANDLER START SUCCESSFUL
In the example, the value 000024 is the NCL ID of the message handler.
If you specify Y in the Parm Override field, message RMS1005 is followed by message
RMS1006, and the RMS : Control Options Definition panels are displayed to allow you
to make temporary changes to the control options. See “Creating a Ruleset” in
Section 5 for a detailed description of the fields on the panels. After you make the
changes, press F3 and the RMS : RMS Message Display panel reappears.
Note When you start your message handler in an OCS window environment (options M or C), do not exit from
the window if you want the handler to continue executing. In particular, do not use the = path specification
to access other functions; this forces an exit from your OCS window and purges your message handler.
What You Can Do on the RMS : RMS Message Display Panel
The RMS : RMS Message Display panel provides the following information:
Current Messages Received contains the current number of messages received.
Line Number identifies the message at the top of the message display that tells
you where you are in the received messages. The number may change as you
scroll through the messages by using the function keys F7 and F8, or jump to a
message by using the FIND command and the function key F5.
You can print the messages as follows:
1. Press F12. An inset appears prompting for the spooler location.
2. Specify the following:
Name of the spooler location in the LOCATION field. The default is $S.#RMS.
Number of copies to be printed in the COPIES field. The default is 1.
Width of the printout in columns in the LINE LEN field. The valid value is in
the range 80 through 255. The default is 132.
