Controlling an RMS
Timer
An RMS timer is a loaded time-based rule. A timer can be started (the time-based rule
loaded) by RMS during initialization, by a message handler, or by you explicitly. Once
a time-based rule is loaded, the RMS timer driver waits for the time at which to
perform the rule actions. If the RMS timer operates with a repeat interval, then once
started, it becomes a NonStop NET/MASTER MS timer.
You can control an RMS timer using the RMS panel interface:
You can activate an RMS timer.
You can display the list of RMS timers and their descriptions.
You can purge an RMS timer.
You can dynamically modify a time-based rule.
Activating an RMS Timer How an RMS timer is activated depends on what you specify in the Status and the
Activation fields on the RMS : Time-Based Rule Definition panel of a time-based rule
as follows:
If (1) the Status field is ACTIVE and (2) the Activation field is I (rule definition
saved) or N (if you are modifying an existing rule and do not want the rule
definition saved), the RMS timer is activated as soon as you press F3 to file the
rule. This is how you explicitly activate a timer.
