This section provides instructions on how to capture statistics on a message handler. It
explains the captured statistics so you can interpret your results.
Evaluating the
Message Flow on Your
System
Before you develop your ruleset, you need to determine the message flow in the
environment in which you intend to use the ruleset. You can gather this information
in the following ways:
From past experience gained on the system
By capturing statistics on the message flow
RMS provides a facility to capture statistics on a message handler. Included are
statistics on the message flow through the message handler and statistics on the
triggered rules.
STATSCAP (provided as part of the RMS product) is a ruleset that you can use with a
message handler to capture statistics on the message flow in an environment. The
STATSCAP ruleset does not affect the message flow.
The following parameters external to the message handler may affect the message flow
in an environment:
OCS details in the user ID definition of the user that owns the environment
Profile of the environment (can be modified through the ruleset that the message
handler uses)
