NonStop Cluster Performance Essentials User's Guide, Version 2.2

1.Introduction

The HP NonStop Cluster Performance Essentials software provides plug-in components to HP

Systems Insight Manager (SIM) to support performance monitoring of heterogeneous

clusters consisting of a combination of NonStop™ and Linux servers. The software allows a

user to monitor the performance of Linux and NonStop clusters or individual servers using

the HP SIM interface.

Product overview: HP NonStop Cluster Performance Essentials is comprised of the

following

 Performance Essentials HP SIM Client (PE SIM Plug-in)

 Performance Essentials NonStop Host (NonStop Agent)

 Performance Essentials Linux Host (Linux Agent)

The Performance Essentials SIM plug-in to HP SIM runs on the Central Management Server

(CMS) and the agents run on NonStop and Linux servers. Performance Essentials agent

components provide the collection and routing of performance metrics from the managed

servers to the Performance Essentials SIM plug-in. This enables the performance monitoring

of the servers from the CMS using server-specific performance data. Agent software runs on

each managed NonStop or Linux server in association and in support of the SIM plug-in

component. Together, they are responsible for gathering performance metrics from

managed NonStop and Linux servers in the clusters, representing them in the HP SIM GUI,

determining the status of clusters periodically, and providing alert notifications based on

user-defined thresholds.

The following functionality provided by the HP NonStop Cluster Performance Essentials:

 Performance monitoring

The product primarily monitors CPU, disk, process, TMF, and network (Expand) line

entities. This information is displayed in a graphical format with visual alerts to

highlight areas that require attention. In addition, each entity has an associated

trend graph which shows its recent usage pattern. A graphical operational drill-down

interface is also provided to pinpoint issues or gather specific details. In most cases,

clicking on a displayed data field exposes other related information applicable to that

component.
