Messages
Cause. An EIO instruction was issued, and the TERMSTAT returned indicates that a
runaway tape occurred. Depending on the device status, this event message can
indicate a problem with the drive, controller, or channel. Also, the tape density might be
incorrect for the switch setting for the 3207 controller, or the tape might be NRZI for the
3208 controller. The TERMSTAT values are:
Effect. The tape operation aborts.
Recovery. This error can occur if an NRZI (800 bpi) tape is mounted on a drive set for
PE (1600 bpi) or GCR (6250 bpi). Check the drive status to determine whether there is
a problem with the drive or with the formatter.
Ensure that the tape is not blank. If it is not blank and it can be read on other drives,
see Recovery Action Requiring Vendor Support on page 10-15.
