Cause. The RIC word for an I/O completion on a 3202 controller indicated a runaway
tape. The 3202 controller sets this condition when any of the following occur:
25 feet of tape was read and no valid data records were detected.
0.64 inches of tape was written and no data was detected at the read head.
A file mark was written, but no data was detected at the read head after 0.64
inches of tape movement.
For phase-encoded (PE) tape, the drive is set to high density and the tape
mounted has no PE ID burst in track 4.
For PE tape, when writing the PE ID burst from the beginning of tape (BOT), the read
head fails to detect the ID burst after 1.28 inches of the burst has been written.
This event could indicate a problem with the application (such as reading beyond the
EOF mark where no data was written). It could also indicate a problem with the drive or
controller.
Effect. The tape operation aborts.
Recovery. If the error continues to occur, see Recovery Action Requiring Vendor
Support on page 10-15.
322: ZTAP-EVT-3202-UNUSUAL-END
A 3202 controller indicated an unusual end.
