Unconditional Tokens
Cause. A problem exists with a tape. An EIO instruction was issued, and the
TERMSTAT returned indicates that the tape in the drive has an error. The TERMSTAT
values are:
Effect. Depending on the cause of the error, either the tape operation aborts or the
tape is rewound and unloaded.
Recovery. First, ensure that the tape is labeled. Then check the drive to ensure that it
is set at the density recorded on the tape volume. If you don’t know the tape volume
density, try switching to the other density setting.
If the problem is a faulty drive, first clean the drive heads and tape guides and then
retry. If the error continues to occur, see Recovery Action Requiring Vendor Support on
page 10-15.
