1 Determining What You Need to Install
The NonStop system console software is preinstalled on system consoles shipped with NonStop
servers. The following DVDs are included with your system consoles:
• The HP NonStop System Console Installer DVD (NSC DVD)
The NSC DVD allows you to upgrade the basic NSC software, as described in chapters 2
through 16 of this guide, and includes the NonStop System Management Tools Master Installer
that lets you upgrade all HP software from a single install wizard.
• The HP Insight Control for NonStop DVD
This DVD contains the HP Insight Control for NonStop Setup Wizard, a master installer that
lets you install the following Windows-based components:
◦ HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM)
◦ HP Insight Control Power Management
◦ NonStop Software Essentials (Windows client)
CAUTION: Installing software not approved by HP — or different versions of approved software
— on a NonStop system console, or any PC on which the OSM Service Connection will be used,
is not advised. For example, OSM prompts you to install the minimum supported version of Java
Runtime Environment (JRE) when you log on to the OSM Service Connection. If the next generation
plug-in is enabled, then OSM displays instructions to disable it. See “OSM Client-Based
Components” (page 30) for information on how to disable periodic Java Update pop-ups that
might prompt you to install unsupported versions of JRE.
TIP: Use the “System Console Applications Installation Checklist ” (page 11) to verify which new
applications and product versions you need to install.
