Decision Support
Daily sales data is tracked and stored in separate operational databases at each site.
The data is then gathered and stored in the ZLE data store, and from there it is
downloaded to a data mining system where rules are developed predicting the
likelihood that customers in particular locations will buy particular products. The rules
developed in the data mine are used to determine the amounts of various products to
order.
The rules are also routed back to the ZLE hub, where they are used to formulate
special offers that are presented to customers in real time as they access the
company’s Web site.
Special tools are available from third-party vendors that can help transfer data to and
from the ZLE hub and route data mining models to the hub. These tools are designed
to take full advantage of performance features of the NonStop server and special
aggregation features of SQL/MX.
