Workstation Access to SQL/MX
Note that you can develop applications without using SQL/MX, and you can develop
SQL/MX applications that do not run under control of an application server
environment (such as the NonStop CORBA, NonStop Tuxedo, or WebLogic Server
environment). However, the combination of flexibility in managing servers provided by
the application server environments and speed in accessing the database provided by
SQL/MX delivers extremely efficient performance in the production environment.
Workstation Access to SQL/MX
HP offers products that provide open access to SQL/MX. These products enable
users to submit database requests directly from a workstation. One of these products
is the NonStop Connectivity Services (NonStop MXCS), which enables developers to
use the popular ODBC interface in client applications. This product is commonly used
in decision support and data mining environments, where decision makers typically use
PC tools to extract information from databases for use in making strategic business
decisions.
Figure 4-6 on page 4-11 shows the role of the NonStop MXCS in allowing workstations
to access SQL/MX databases.
