Software and Installation Requirements
Pathway NSM/web runs as a small, independent, HP NonStop
Pathway/iTS environment.
OSS Many NSM/web files are stored in the OSS directory hierarchy,
and all of its executables run as OSS processes.
NSM/web
executables
NSMwebNSKServer performs utility commands. One instance
runs for each NSM/web client.
NSMwebServerFactory is the persistent process (under
Pathway/iTS) that spawns the required NSM/web server.
NSMwebSqlMXServer performs SQL DDL commands. One
instance runs for each NSM/web client.
NSMwebMXCSServer performs MXCS management
commands. One instance runs for each NSM/web client.
Note: NSMwebNSKServer, NSMwebSqlMXServer, and
NSMwebMXCSServer are not part of the Pathway/iTS
environment and do not terminate if you shut down the
Pathway/iTS environment.
Web server You must make the NSM/web home page available to your
users. Provide a link from one of your existing pages or, if your
Web server configuration allows it, provide potential NSM/web
users with a specific URL to use.
TCP/IP NSM/web can run under a traditional TCP/IP or parallel TCP/IP
environment. However, all access from the Web pages to the
servers must use a specific IP address, not a DNS name.
Browsers NSM/web runs in any Web browser/platform pair for which the
Java Plug-in 1.5 has been installed. This plug-in is available on
the Oracle Web site.
If you start NSM/web using Microsoft Internet Explorer on a
Windows platform, and Internet Explorer cannot find the plug-in,
a prompt is displayed that provides the option to install the plug-
in automatically.
For systems that are not connected to the Internet, you must
manually install the plug-in on each workstation. Therefore, HP
recommends that you connect to the Internet during installation
to find and install the most current version of the plug-in. It can
also be useful to connect to the Internet occasionally and install
the latest version of the plug-in to prevent running a plug-in that
is no longer compatible with NSM/web.
You do not have to make the Java plug-in your default virtual
machine (VM). If you leave the Microsoft VM as your default,
NSM/web uses the Java plug-in, and your other applets
continue using the Microsoft VM.
