TCP/IP subsystem
TCP/IP subsystem. A NonStop subsystem that allows the use of TCP/IP to access a
NonStop host from Macintosh, personal computer, and UNIX workstations.
Applications running on a NonStop system or in an Expand network can transparently
exchange data with TCP/IP devices.
tape drive. A device that moves magnetic tape past magnetic read/write heads, which read
data from or write data to the tape.
tape dump. To copy the memory of a processor to tape.
tape load. A system load. A tape load is the process of reading a system image tape (SIT)
and writing it to the system disk. In the event of a disaster, the normal procedure for
loading a system is to restore the SIT from tape to a SYSnn subvolume and load the
system from that subvolume. If all SYSnn subvolumes become corrupted, the only way
to restore the operating system is to perform a tape load. Note that a tape load will erase
all data residing on the system disk before writing the SIT to it. Contact the Global
Customer Support Center (GCSC) before performing a tape load; many additional steps
are required to restore your system to working order.
target system. The computer system you make larger by adding enclosures to, using a
process known as system expansion. See also double-high ServerNet adapter
.
TCP. See Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)
.
TCP/IP. See Transmission Control Protocol over Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
.
terminator. A resistor connected to a signal wire in a bus or network for the purpose of
impedance matching to prevent reflections. SCSI chains, Ethernet cables, and some
LocalTalk wiring configurations require terminators.
TFTP. See TRSA
.
TMF subsystem. See Transaction Management Facility (TMF) subsystem
.
TM/MP. See NonStop Transaction Manager/MP (NonStop TM/MP)
.
TSM. See TSM package
.
Token-Ring ServerNet adapter (TRSA). A ServerNet adapter that provides a single line
from a Himalaya S-series server to a token-ring network, allowing the server to act as a
station on the ring. Speeds are switchable between 4 megabytes (MB) and 16 MB, and
the media can be either shielded twisted pair (STP) or unshielded twisted pair (UTP).
topology. The physical layout of components that define a local area network (LAN), wide
area network (WAN), or system area network (SAN).
topology branch. A processor enclosure and the I/O enclosures attached to it.
Transaction Management Facility (TMF) subsystem. The major component of the
NonStop Transaction Manager/MP product, which protects databases in online
