Open System Services Management and Operations Guide (G06.30+, H06.08+, J06.03+)

limit error A resource error that occurs when a resource’s current usage is at (or so near) its limit that an
allocation cannot be attempted. A limit error generates an EMS event. A resource allocation
cannot be attempted when the resource’s current usage plus the requested resource amount is
greater than the resource’s defined limit.
link A directory entry for a file.
Measure A system measurement tool. See the Measure Reference Manual for details.
mount To make a fileset accessible to the users of a node.
mount point A directory that contains a mounted fileset. The mounted fileset can be in a different file system.
node A uniquely identified computer system connected to one or more other computer systems in a
network.
non-regular file A file in the OSS environment that is not a regular (disk) file.
NonStop Technical
Library
The online collection of HP NonStop OSS and Guardian documents that are available for
download. The NonStop Technical Library (NTL) is located at http://www.hp.com/go/

Open resource An OSS file-system resource that implements OSS opens or operations related to OSS opens.
Open resources can be either bounded open resources or unbounded open resources.
See also Bounded open resource, Unbounded open resource.
Open System
Services (OSS)
An open system environment available for interactive or programmatic use with the HP NonStop
operating system. Processes that run in the OSS environment usually use the OSS application
program interface; interactive users of the OSS environment usually use the OSS shell for their
command interpreter.
Open System
Services (OSS)
DSM/SCM
The OSS Distributed Systems Management/Software Configuration Manager component (T8623)
that handles the interface between SCF and the OSS Monitor.
See also SCF, Open System Services (OSS) Monitor.
Open System
Services (OSS)
environment
The HP NonStop operating system Open System Services (OSS) application program interface
(API), tools, and utilities.
Open System
Services (OSS) File
Manager
A per-processor process that initializes OSS file-system resources for the processor after processor
reload.
Open System
Services (OSS) File

The group of HP NonStop products that together implement the OSS file system: T8620, T8621,
T8622, T8623, T8624, T8306, T8397, T8994, and T9055.
Open System
Services (OSS)
Local Server 2
A planned per-processor process that is the transport provider for AF_UNIX R2 sockets.
Open System
Services (OSS)
Monitor
A Guardian utility that accepts commands affecting OSS objects through an interactive Guardian
interface named the Subsystem Control Facility (SCF).
Open System
Services (OSS)
Name Server
A process (or process pair) that provides translation between OSS pathnames and Guardian file
names.
Open System
Services (OSS) Pipe
Server
A per-processor OSS helper process that manages pipe and FIFO operations.
Open System
Services (OSS)
Resource Agent
A thin per-processor OSS helper process that gathers resource information for the OSS Monitor.
Open System
Services (OSS)
