Figure 6 EMS Components and Event-Message Routing
Managing event messages involves choosing among these options for viewing them:
Use workstation software with a built-in event viewer, such as the CA-Unicenter product.
Use a Web-based event viewer.
Use the ViewPoint application, which offers several event-display screens and supports methods
for changing these screens. For more information, see the ViewPoint Manual.
Run a printing distributor, which writes event messages to a printer, a file, or other output
destination. Examples of this approach are discussed in “Displaying Current Event Messages,
“Displaying Saved Event Messages, and “Creating Event Filters.
Read the event message display produced on the operator console, which is controlled by
the compatibility distributor ($0).
Displaying Current Event Messages
To display current event messages, run a printing distributor by issuing this TACL command, where
the TEXTOUT target ($TERM1) is your terminal:
EMSDIST /NAME $DIST1/ TYPE PRINTING, COLLECTOR $0, &
TEXTOUT $TERM1
The preceding example is an implicit RUN command that assumes the program EMSDIST is located
on $SYSTEM.SYSTEM, that the name of the collector is $0, and that the name of your terminal is
$TERM1. To stop the distributor, press the Break key on your terminal keyboard, and then use the
TACL STOP command to terminate the distributor.
