NAME
uuencode - Encodes a binary le
SYNOPSIS
uuencode [inle] remotele
DESCRIPTION
The uuencode command reads the named inle (the default value for inle is the standard input
le) and produces an encoded version of that le on the standard output le. The encoding uses
only printing ASCII characters and includes the le access permission bits of the le and the
pathname to be used when the le is decoded by uudecode. This pathname is specied by
remotele.
The output le is approximately 35 percent larger than the original
le.
When the command is reading from the standard input le, the umask setting determines the le
permissions.
Operands
infile Species the pathname of the le to be encoded.
remotefile Species the pathname that the le should be given when it is decoded by the
uudecode command.
Environment Variables
This command supports the use of the LANG, LC_ALL, LC_CTYPE, LC_MESSAGES, and
NLSPATH environment variables.
EXIT VALUES
The uuencode command returns the following values:
0 (zero) The command completed successfully.
>0 An error occurred.
