Open System Services Shell and Utilities Reference Manual (G06.28+, H06.05+)

User Commands (p - r) pax(1)
Any attempt to append an archive le in a format that is different from the existing for-
mat causes pax to exit immediately with a nonzero exit value.
-X Prevents pax from descending into directories that have a different device ID when
traversing the le hierarchy specied by a pathname.
HP Extensions
-W clobber
Allows the matching les from an archive to be restored to a Guardian target and to
overwrite any existing Guardian target le with the same name. The les are restored
as unstructured les and Guardian le attributes are not preserved.
Be sure you understand the problems this can create (refer to the subsection Guardian
Filename Transformation under DESCRIPTION before using this ag).
-W NOG
Species that the Guardian namespace (/G) should not be accessible to pax. This ag
is effective only if the specied le is in the local (/G) or remote (/E/node/G) Guardian
namespace.
-W NOE Species that the Expand namespace (/E) should not be accessible to pax. This ag is
effective only if the specied le is in the Expand (/E) namespace.
-W noprompt
Species that pax should not prompt the user to load a tape. pax waits indenitely
until the tape gets mounted. The -W noprompt ag has precedence over the -W wait
ag.
-W norewind
Species that the tape be left on the tape drive without being rewound and unloaded
after pax has nished writing to or reading from it. The tape drive is closed. The
default action is for the tape to be rewound.
The pax utility cannot append les on unlabeled tapes. Refer to the NOTES subsec-
tion of this reference page for more information.
The -W nounload ag is assumed when the -W norewind ag is specied. The -W
unload and -W norewind ags cannot be specied together.
-W [unload | nounload]
Species whether the tape is to be unloaded or left on the tape drive after it has been
rewound. The default action is -W unload.

or the tape drive goes off line:
Issue a prompt and wait for you to mount a tape
Exit immediately, without waiting
The default action is -W nowait.
Specify both the -W NOG and -W NOE ags to omit both the /G and /E directories.
