User Commands (p - r) pinstall(1)
NAME
pinstall - Extracts les from a pax (ustar) format archive le and copies them to the OSS le
system
SYNOPSIS
pinstall [-r][-cdiknuv][-f archive][-p string] ...
[-s replstr] ... [-W options][pattern] ...
FLAGS
-c Matches all le or archive members except those specied by the pattern operand.
-d Does not create intermediate directories unless they are specically named in the
archive le. Similiarly, les are not extracted unless the required directories already
exist.
-f archive
Species the OSS pathname of the input archive. The archive argument can be:
The pathname for a Guardian tape device (such as /G/tape for the Guardian
device named \NODE1.$TAPE on \NODE1)
The pathname for a Guardian le (such as /G/system/system/archle for the
Guardian le $SYSTEM.SYSTEM.ARCHFILE)
If a tape device is used, pinstall displays the appropriate tape mount messages to make
sure that the correct tapes are mounted on the tape drives before proceeding.
-f does not preserve le access times.
-i Interactively renames archive members. For each archive member matching the
specied pattern operand, a prompt is written to the terminal. The prompt contains the
name of the archive member that is to be renamed. The users response is read from
the terminal.
If the users response to the prompt is blank, the archive member is skipped. If the
response is a single period (dot), the archive member is processed with no modication
to its name. Otherwise, the name is replaced with the contents of the response.
-k Prevents existing les from being overwritten.
-n Selects the rst archive member that matches the specied pattern operand. No more
than one archive member is matched for each pattern operand.
-p string Species one or more le characteristic options (privileges). The string argument must
be a string specifying le characteristics to be retained or discarded on extraction. The
string argument can consist of any combination of the following options:
a Do not preserve le access times.
e Preserve the user ID, group ID, le mode bits, le access times, and le
modication times.
m Do not preserve le modication times.
o Preserve the user ID and group ID.
p Preserve the le mode bits.
