22.3.2 Defining a Cell in the Global Directory Service
In GDS, cell information is contained in two attributes: CDS-Cell and CDS-Replica.
You can cause an existing GDS name to become a cell entry by adding these two
attributes to the name. If the name you want to use for the cell does not yet exist, you
must create it and then add the attributes. The GDS administration program uses
numbered screens called masks to accept user input. Use the object administration
masks to create a cell entry. (See the for details.)
After you configure a cell, you can use the cdscp show cell command to obtain the data
that you need to supply when you are creating the CDS-Cell and CDS-Replica
attributes. The following is an example show cell command and the resulting GDS-
formatted output for a cell that is named /.../C=US/O=ABC/OU=Sales:
cdscp> show cell /.../C=US/O=ABC/OU=Sales as gds
SHOW
CELL /.../C=US/O=ABC/OU=Sales
AT 1991-09-18-17:17:23
Namespace UUID = de86b5cd-75ea-11ca-bad8-08002b1c8f1f
Chouse UUID = dc730a9c-75ea-11ca-bad8-08002b1c8f1f
Chouse Name = /.../C=US/O=ABC/OU=Sales/NY_ch
Replica Type = Master
Tower 1 = ncadg_ip_udp:16.20.16.9
Tower 2 = ncacn_ip_tcp:16.20.16.9
Namespace UUID = de86b5cd-75ea-11ca-bad8-08002b1c8f1f
Chouse UUID = 391f15e8-75ef-11ca-a4f4-08002b1c8f1f
Chouse Name = /.../C=US/O=ABC/OU=Sales/Paris_ch
Replica Type = Readonly
Tower 1 = ncadg_ip_udp:16.20.16.9
Tower 2 = ncacn_ip_tcp:16.20.16.9
After you obtain output from the show cell command, log into the GDS administration
program and refer to the command output to fill in the fields of Mask 21 (CDS-Cell) and
Mask 22 (CDS-Replica) and create the cell entry attributes. You also can use these
masks to modify attribute information if you eventually create additional replicas of the
root directory, move a clearinghouse, or make other changes that affect information in
the cell entry. (See the for details.)
