Conﬁguring DCE

You can conﬁgure GDA in a cell that uses either GDS or DNS as the global directory

service. Although dce_conﬁg can conﬁgure GDA in a cell that uses GDS, you must

use manual procedures to conﬁgure GDA in a cell that uses DNS. Both types of

conﬁguration are described in the subsections that follow.

8.8.5.1 Conﬁguring GDA in a GDS Cell

To conﬁgure a GDA server in a cell that uses GDS for the global directory service,

type 7 on the Additional Server Conﬁguration menu and press <RETURN>.

The dce_conﬁg script displays the following messages, conﬁgures the GDA server and

starts the GDA server daemon, gdad.

S:****** Configuring GDA Server...

S:****** Checking for active sec_client service...

S:****** Adding GDA principal to registry database...

S:****** Starting gdad...

When the conﬁguration is complete, dce_conﬁg retuns the Additional Server

Conﬁguration menu.

8.8.5.2 Conﬁguring GDA in a DNS Cell

To conﬁgure GDA in a DNS cell, perform the following steps:

1. Ensure that the machine being conﬁgured has access to the named daemon

through resolv.conf.

2. Obtain the output of the cdscp show cell command.

3. Register the cell information enumerated by the cdscp show cell command with

the named daemon (which is the server that controls DNS name resolution).

4. Restart the named daemon.

In a DNS cell, you can run the gdad daemon in the following modes:

DNS gdad -x

X.500 gdad -b

Both DNS and X.500 gdad
