PICS for the OSI Session Protocol, Version 2
PICS for the OSI Session Protocol, Version 2
F.0 Introduction
To evaluate the conformance of a particular implementation, it is necessary to have a
description of the options and parameters which have been implemented. Such a
description is called a Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS).
This Annex contains the PICS proforma for the Session protocol as described by ISO
8327 and Addendum 2 of ISO 8327. Addendum 1 of ISO 8327 is not taken into
account. This proforma has been prepared in compliance with the guidelines given in
ISO 9646-2. The supplier of a protocol implementation which is claimed to conform to
ISO 8327 shall complete the proforma and shall provide the information necessary to
identify both the supplier and the implementation. The supplier of the protocol
implementation shall follow the guidance rules given hereunder about Protocol versions
and the I-column.
Protocol Versions
An implementation shall be described by completing a separate PICS proforma for each
supported protocol version. PICS documents for all versions of the protocol for which
conformance is claimed should be attached to each other and used together.
Line Numbering
Each line within the PICS proforma which requires implementation detail to be entered
is numbered at the left hand edge of the line. This numbering is included as a means of
uniquely identifying all possible implementation detail within the PICS proforma.
The convention used is:
clause number/line number(item on line)
where the (item on line) is (a), (b), (c), etc. to refer to the first,
second, and third item on the line respectively and applies only if there is more than one
response required on the line.
Hierarchical Structure of the PICS Proforma
The PICS structure reflects the two-level structure of the protocol:
•
Functional Units (among Major Capabilities)
•
Protocol Elements (SPDUs, SPDU-parameters)
