Overview of Tandem OSI Products
Tandem OSI software implements the ISO seven-layer model for standard network
architecture, commonly known as the OSI Reference Model. This model specifies a
common network environment in which heterogeneous computer systems can exchange
data. It describes a hierarchy of services that allows applications running in different
host systems to communicate across a network. Systems that implement ISO required
services are called open systems. Tandem OSI products provide all the required services
to enable applications running in Tandem systems to communicate with applications
running in other open systems.
Network and data-link interfaces are provided by the following products:
X25AM (Tandem X.25 Access Method)
TLAM (Tandem LAN Access Method)
The Tandem OSI product line includes four products:
OSI/TS (OSI/Transport Services)
OSI/AS (OSI/Application Services)
Tandem Product Version The Tandem product version described by the given PICS
(for example, C30). Unless otherwise noted, the
conformance claimed in a PICS statement applies to the
given product version and all subsequent IPMs and
product versions.
Date PICS Last Updated The date on which the proforma or the PICS contents were
last updated by Tandem.
Verification Indicates whether the PICS has been verified and, if so, in
what manner. Example entries for this item are:
Conformance claimed herein has not been formally
verified
Internally verified, using NCC version xxx
ROLAND certification, using DANET version xxx
Notes Comments or other information pertinent to the PICS.
Note. Tandem now offers an RFC-1006 implementation in OSI/AS and in OSI/TS. RFC-1006
allows OSI/TS to connect to the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), which is a Transport
Layer Protocol specified in the Internet Reference Model. For more information, refer to the
Tandem OSI/AS and OSI/TS Supplement (Includes RFC-1006 Support).
