Installing and Configuring the Subsystem
OSI/AS Configuration and Management Manual—424119-001
4-2
Sequence of Tasks
2. Configure OSI protocol attributes:
a. Configure Layer 3 attributes.
b. Configure Layer 4 attributes.
c. Configure Layer 5 attributes.
d. Configure Layer 6 attributes.
e. Configure Layer 7 ACSE attributes.
For these tasks, you need to know what values to set for protocol attributes within
different OSI layers and the effect of those attributes on performance. You need to
know how to configure Transport Layer protocols. If you are using X25AM, you
need to know the meaning of X.25 configuration parameters. If you are using
TLAM (for D-series releases) or PAM (for G06 and above releases), you need to
know the meaning of LAN configuration parameters.
3. Configure connections:
a. Add SNPA ENTRY objects (or specify Network Layer servers and profiles in an
APPL ENTRY object).
b. Add NSAP ENTRY objects (or specify Transport Layer servers and profiles in
an APPL ENTRY object).
c. Add TSEL ENTRY objects (or specify upper-layer servers and profiles in an
APPL ENTRY object).
d. Add APPL ENTRY objects (register applications with the OSI manager
process).
For these tasks, you need to understand how OSI/AS uses addresses, address
components, and endpoint identifiers to identify connections when applications
request services. In particular, you need to understand the relationships between
ENTRY objects, profiles, and server processes as discussed in Section 2,
Management Environment.
4. Verify your configuration:
Use the SCF CHECK ENTRY command to verify that all address components have
been defined and registered by the OSI manager process. Use the CHECK ENTRY
command also to verify the configuration information the OSI manager process will
use for connections between local and remote APPL ENTRYs.
For this task, you need to understand the dynamics and goals of your specific
configuration—how it all goes together to support the requirements of your
application and network environment. You also need to know how to use the
CHECK ENTRY command.
