Configuring and Starting Subsystem Processes
The system generation (SYSGEN) and Install programs help you configure the
operating system image to include the controllers and lines used by your OSI/AS
subsystems.
The Dynamic System Configuration (DSC) program enables you to change the
configuration of certain peripherals, controllers, and communications processes
without stopping your system operation. The user interface to DSC is the
Configuration Utility Program (COUP). You can use this tool to add X.25 and
TLAM subnetwork lines to OSI/AS without having to bring your NonStop system
down to generate a new operating system image.
Configuring and Starting Subsystem Processes
The first step in setting up your OSI/AS subsystem is to define the communications
lines, management components, and processes that work together to provide OSI
services. This section describes some of the procedures and tools you use to accomplish
these tasks.
Installing the basic OSI/AS components breaks down into the following subtasks:
Installing the Network Layer
Make modifications to your SYSGEN configuration file, or use the Dynamic
System Configuration facility to install the lines that provide network services.
Creating the MIB database
Create the MIB database file by using the FUP utility to create a key-sequenced file
with the required parameters.
Installing the OSI manager process
Create the OSI manager process by running it interactively from SCF or a TACL
command interpreter, or by running it programmatically using a NEWPROCESS or
PROCESS_CREATE_ system procedure call. (You should always run the OSI
manager process as a NonStop process pair.) After the OSI manager process is
running in your NonStop environment, you start it in the OSI/AS environment using
the SCF command interface.
Adding NSP, TSP, and TAPS processes
Use SCF commands to define these processes to the OSI manager.
Starting TSP and TAPS processes
Use SCF to start the TSP and TAPS processes; use indirect process names.
Installing the Network Layer
This subsection discusses some issues you need to consider when installing the Compaq
access methods that provide Network Layer services to OSI/AS. OSI/AS uses standard
Compaq products to provide network services:
