Benefits of Using CHECK SU
The format for the CHECK SU display with the DETAIL option for a G-series system is
as follows:
For more detailed information on the fields in these screen displays, see the OSI/AS SCF
Reference Manual.
Benefits of Using CHECK SU
Although the CHECK SU command is similar to a combination of the separate
commands STATUS SU TAPS, STATUS SU TSP, and STATUS LINE NSP, the CHECK
SU command is more useful for the following reasons:
You can get information for the OSI/AS subsystem and the underlying subsystems
(OSI/TS, X25AM, and TLAM or PAM) at once, with one command.
The selection specifiers filter the information, displaying only what you are
interested in. The ERRORONLY option is particularly helpful for selecting only the
subdevices that are in an error state. This attribute is most useful when used in
conjunction with a wildcard specifier for the subdevice name.
You don’t always need to enter the name of an subdevice. The wildcard feature
allows you to find any subdevices that are being used by a specified connection.
Once the TAPS subdevices are found that match the criteria (for example,
subdevices being used by an particular application and having a particular APPL
name or #TSEL), then CHECK SU finds the related TSP subdevices and NSP
subdevices.
Some Words of Caution
Before using CHECK SU, make sure you have planned for the following:
Use the wildcard option with great care, especially in a busy OSI network.
Wildcards can affect the performance levels of TAPS and TSP processes that are
queried. Use of wildcards alone, without a partial name, is not recommended.
Use the DETAIL option sparingly because it generates a great quantity of
information. It may be easier to log the output to the spooler or to a disk file and
print out the DETAIL screens.
