Introduction
The Compaq Open Systems Interconnection/Application Services (OSI/AS) subsystem
is a collection of software components that allow Compaq NonStop systems to function
as open systems in standard OSI networks. Compaq OSI/AS provides the following:
•
ACSE (Association Control Service Element) services in the Application Layer
(Layer 7)
•
Presentation Layer (Layer 6) services
•
Session Layer (Layer 5) services
•
Transport Layer (Layer 4) services, using the underlying Compaq Open Systems
Interconnection/Transport Services (OSI/TS) subsystem
•
Network Layer (Layer 3) and Data Link Layer (Layer 2) services, using, for WANs,
the X.25 Access Method (X25AM) and NonStop TCP/IP subsystem, or, for LANs,
the Tandem LAN Access Method (TLAM) subsystem (for D-series releases) or the
Port Access Method (PAM) subsystem (for G06 and above releases)
•
Configuration and management services, provided by an OSI manager process that
includes full configuration and control of the Layer 4, Layer 5, Layer 6, and ACSE
Layer 7 processes and protocols, and selected control and monitoring of lower-layer
processes
