Examples of EMS Filters
The Event Management Service (EMS) distributor takes in event messages from the
subsystems running in your system or network, stores them in an event log, and returns
to you (through a printing distributor or to your management application) only those
event messages that pass the filter you have installed. By using filters, you can limit the
event messages your application receives to those of interest to you.
This appendix contains the following four example filter source files that illustrate
typical filters you might want to use to capture event messages related to OSI/AS:
All event messages related to OSI subsystems—OSI/AS, OSI/TS, X25AM, and
TLAM (on D-series releases) or PAM (on G06 and above releases)
Event messages that provide useful network management information, such as
OSI/AS processes started
A combination of event messages that provide useful network management
information, such as OSI/AS processes started and Session Layer thresholds
Important event messages that you might want to report to your Compaq
representative, such as internal errors (OSI/AS ZOSI^EVT^INTL^ERR) and state
machine errors (ZOSI^EVT^SM^ERR)
An example command file to compile EMS filters is also included at the end of this
appendix.
Note. If you do not install a filter, EMS returns all event messages it receives from subsystems
running on your local system. Since the total number of event messages can be very large, we
recommend that you always install a filter if you are using EMS.
Note. To use these filters, you must change the system name to reflect your environment.
