Transport Layer Protocols
Transport Layer Protocols
OSI/AS uses OSI/TS processes (TSP processes) to provide Transport Layer services.
These TSP processes conform to the ISO 8072 service definitions and the ISO 8073
protocol specification.
The TSP processes implement transport protocol classes 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4. TSP
implements the protocols as follows:
•
In class 1, TSP sends acknowledgment transport protocol data units (AK-TPDUs) to
acknowledge outstanding TPDUs.
•
In class 2, TSP always uses flow control; there is no provision for disabling this
feature.
•
In class 4, TSP does not split a transport connection over multiple network
connections. Over LAN subnetworks, only transport protocol class 4 is allowed.
Session Layer Protocol
The OSI Session Layer protocol is organized into a set of functional units. Each
functional unit provides a related set of Session Layer services. TAPS processes
implement the ISO 8326 service definitions and the ISO 8327 protocol specifications.
TAPS processes support both version 1 and version 2 of the Session Layer protocol, and
provide the following functional units:
•
Kernel
•
Half-duplex
•
Duplex
•
Typed data
•
Capability data exchange
•
Minor synchronize
•
Major synchronize
•
Negotiated release
•
Resynchronize
•
Exceptions
•
Activity management
•
Major synchronize
TAPS processes do not support the expedited data functional unit.
