APPL ENTRY Objects
APPL ENTRY Objects
You use the APPL ENTRY object to register the application names and OSI addresses
used by local and remote applications. The application name, or APPL ENTRY name, is
the name used by an application and refers to a particular, complete OSI address, a
PSAP, which is the combination of the NSAP, TSEL, SSEL, and PSEL. The OSI
manager process stores this name and address information in the MIB.
APPL ENTRY objects are optional elements of an OSI/AS subsystem. The information
that you enter by means of these objects can also be supplied directly by the applications
that use your subsystem. APPL ENTRY objects relieve applications of having to supply
complete OSI addresses when requesting services. If corresponding APPL ENTRY
objects exist, an application need only supply the application names to procedures that
invoke OSI services.
Whether or not you need to add APPL ENTRY objects to your subsystem is a matter
you have to coordinate with the needs of the applications that use your subsystem. For
example, Compaq OSI/FTAM uses the OSI/AS subsystem and uses APPL ENTRY
objects to specify FTAM common names. However, Compaq OSI/MHS also uses the
OSI/AS subsystem, but does not use OSI/AS APPL ENTRY objects. APPL ENTRY
objects are required if your system is configured for static subdevices or allows
loopback connections.
You add an APPL ENTRY object to your subsystem to do the following:
•
Register an application name with the OSI manager process the name must be
unique within the OSI/AS subsystem.
•
Associate an NSAP address with the application.
•
Associate a TSEL with the application.
•
Associate a session selector (SSEL) with the application (optional).
•
Associate a presentation selector (PSEL) with the application (optional).
•
Associate AE title (APTITLE and AEQUALIFIER) data with the application
(optional)
•
Assign a Network Layer server (NSP process) and profile (optional).
•
Assign a Transport Layer server (TSP process) and profile (optional).
•
Assign a Session Layer server (TAPS process) and profile (optional).
•
Specify other connection attributes (loopback configuration and static subdevices).
If you use APPL ENTRY objects in your configuration, an APPL ENTRY is required
for each local and remote application name.
