SERVICE Objects
SERVICE Objects
SERVICE objects are sets of default protocol configuration attributes and thresholds,
and statistics within the Network Layer, Transport Layer, Session Layer, Presentation
Layer, and ACSE of your OSI/AS subsystem. There is one SERVICE object associated
with each of these layers: one Network Layer SERVICE object, one Transport Layer
SERVICE object, and so on. You cannot add or delete SERVICE objects.
SERVICE objects define protocol configurations that affect all connections within their
respective layers. However, within the Network Layer, Transport Layer, and Session
Layer, you can override the service configuration for particular SNPAs, NSAPs, and
TSELs during the connection-establishment phase by specifying a profile for the
appropriate address component. If a PROFILE object is specified, the values in the
profile override the service characteristics defined for that layer according to the object
selection hierarchy and the address components specified during the connection-
establishment phase; values not specified in the profile default to the service values. See
PROFILE Objects
on page 2-22 and Selection Hierarchy of Object Attributes on
page 2-35.
SCF Commands for SERVICE Objects
Using SCF, you can get information on SERVICE objects and their protocol attributes,
or alter their attributes. Use the following SCF commands to manage SERVICE objects:
ALTER Alters the attributes of a SERVICE object.
INFO Lists the attribute values of a SERVICE object.
NAMES Lists the names of the SERVICE objects that are registered with
the specified manager process.
STATS Displays statistical counters for a SERVICE object.
