Specifying NSAP Addresses in OSI/AS
The meaning of an NSAP ENTRY object differs depending upon the addressing
standard used and the type of network used. The OSI/AS subsystem interprets NSAP
ENTRY objects as follows:
•
NSAP over X.25 using 1980 addressing standards:
The NSAP address only represents an internal number used for look-up.
•
NSAP over X.25 using 1984 addressing standards:
The NSAP address is a real NSAP address.
•
NSAP over LAN:
The NSAP address is a real NSAP address.
Structure of NSAP Addresses
The structure of NSAP addresses reflects the hierarchy of network addressing domains
and authorities, and is defined in the document ISO 8348, Addendum 2. Figure 3-3
shows this structure. The individual parts of the address are discussed following the
figure.
