OSI/AS Management Programming Manual

New and Changed Information
056785 Tandem Computers Incorporated iii
This is the second edition of the Tandem OSI/AS Management Programming Manual.
This manual documents the interactive interface to the C30 release of the Open
Systems Interconnection/Application Services (OSI/AS). This manual also contains
additional enhancements to the previous edition. The following subsection
summarizes these changes.
Subsystem Changes Changes to the interactive interface to the OSI/AS subsystem are as follows:
This release runs on both Tandem C-series and D-series systems—compatibility
issues are explained. New tokens for the D-series systems are documented.
Subdevices can be configured to be deleted when a connection is finished
(dynamic) or saved for possible reuse (static) by using the new ZDEL-TIME
attribute in the ADD ENTRY #APPL and ALTER ENTRY #APPL commands.
All profiles and servers can now be specified in the ADD ENTRY #APPL
command.
For certain applications, a loopback connection can be used to improve
throughput and performance. Data is passed between the applications as far as
the TAPS processes, bypassing the TSP and NSP processes. Both applications
must use #APPL entries, use the same OSI manager process, and reside on the
same OSI subsystem, with the called application specifying loopback. The
ZLOOPBACK attribute is defined in the ADD ENTRY #APPL and ALTER ENTRY
#APPL commands.
Multiple sets of TAPS, TSP, and NSP processes or profiles can be assigned to one
OSI address. This feature is explained and illustrated with an example; see
“Operational Notes” for the ADD ENTRY command.
Additional fields have been added to the STATISTICS PROCESS and to the
STATUS SU commands.
Manual Enhancements Enhancements to the manual are as follows:
There is a new table in the “About This Manual” section that summarizes the tasks
that are provided in each of the seven manuals for the Tandem OSI/AS and
Tandem OSI/TS products.
Several of the attributes have been renamed to improved usability. These changes
maintains backward compatibility: existing programs or command files will still
work with the original name. Appendix D summarizes these changes.
Subsystem-specific descriptions of all ZCOM event messages that can be returned
by OSI/AS were added to Section 6.
“Operational Notes” for the ADD ENTRY command now contains a discussion of
how the OSI manager process establishes connections. (This information helps the
reader to know where to specify profiles and servers.)
