C-Series and D-Series
Compatibility
This C30 version of OSI/AS is able to run at a high PIN (process identification
number) in D-series systems (version D00 or later); it can run only at a low PIN in
C-series systems (version C21 or later).
Since the application interface is not version controlled, the functions available
through the application interface are available to any application regardless of the
software version.
Caution TSP process names are used to build X25AM subdevice and TLAM port names and, therefore, must not
be longer than five characters (including the dollar sign) if TSP processes are going to be opened by
remote applications. See the ZNAME attribute in the ADD or ALTER PROCESS command in Section 5
for more information.
The following subsections discuss general compatibility rules and OSI/AS-specific
information for users having networks that include the following combinations of
C-series system and D-series system software:
C30 OSI/AS running in a D-series system (version D10 or later)
C30 OSI/AS running in a C-series system (version C30 or later)
Mixed C-series and D-series system Expand networks
OSI/AS running in mixed C-series and D-series Expand networks
C30 OSI/AS Running in a
D-Series System
All combinations of communication between processes, whether running at a high-
PIN or low-PIN, are permitted within a D-series system or between two or more
D-series systems.
General Compatibility Information
The following communication is permitted within a D-series system or between two or
more D-series systems in an Expand network, and is illustrated in Figure 1-5:
High-PIN processes in a D-series system can access low-PIN processes running in
a D-series system.
Low-PIN processes in a D-series system can access high-PIN processes running in
a D-series system.
