OSI/AS Programming Manual
About This Manual
xiv 056783 Tandem Computers Incorporated
About This Manual This manual describes the Tandem APS (application, presentation, and session)
procedures, which enable application programs to establish and use Open Systems
Interconnection (OSI) connections using the Session Layer, the Presentation Layer, and
the Association Control Service Element (ACSE) of the Application Layer. These
procedures are part of the Tandem OSI/AS (Open Systems
Interconnection/Application Services) data communications subsystem.
The manual serves as both a reference manual and a programmer’s guide. It does the
following:
Describes the use of the APS procedures
Gives the syntax and programming considerations for each of the APS procedures
Describes the errors that can be returned to programs that use the APS procedures
Describes the data definitions provided for use with the APS procedures
Gives the syntax and programming considerations for writing applications in
nowait mode using the module file management (MFM) procedures
Gives guidelines for calling the APS procedures from a C program
Provides sample programs
Provides a list of abbreviations and a glossary of OSI and Tandem terms
This manual does not, however, attempt to teach OSI. For names of publications
providing information about OSI, see “What Related Publications Are Available?”
later in this preface.
For information on setting up and managing an OSI/AS subsystem, refer to the
Tandem OSI/AS Configuration and Management Manual.
